Everyone's a winner!

Dulwich v Arras

Over the weekend of 1-2 October 2011, Dulwich Squash Club hosted the Anzin club from Arras, France. Marion Arbinet had first contacted Dulwich back in the spring and following a short visit in July to stay with Dulwich member Nikhil Roy, she came back with an eight strong team to play against and make friends with a select band from Dulwich.

The squash was fiercely competitive (only to be expected in any Anglo-French sporting contest) with honours going the way of Arras on Sat 1st, only for Dulwich to fight back magnificently on Sunday 2nd. Honours even then and, with a great lunch of bangers and mash thrown in on the Saturday by Dulwich and a generous gift of several bottles of French bubbly from the visitors, a good time was had by all.

Special thanks to co-organisers Richard Sims and Rob Hall, and to all the merry men and women who turned out for Dulwich that weekend: Duncan Marlow, Dave Lowe, Tony Jones, Chris Wilkes, Victoria Bulgin, Neale Roy, Pierre Albert, Graeme Humphrey, Ollie Howes, Steve Harsum, Hannah Ferriday, Heather Williamson, Andrew Sims, Gary Dishman. Thanks also to Club President Graham Ashton for sparing the time to come along for the lunch on Saturday and to Bob Jaffe for supporting the event and making everyone welcome.

The event was reported in the French media with the slightly misleading headline, France beat England at squash as well (this soon after the Rugby fiasco). A return visit is anticipated in May 2012; there are some places available on the Dulwich team so anyone interested in a trip to Arras should contact Nikhil Roy, email: roynikhil@aol.com
